What Is Pediatric Physiotherapy?
Pediatric physiotherapy focuses on assessing and treating movement challenges in children from infancy through adolescence. Unlike adult physiotherapy, pediatric physio considers growth, development, and how movement skills evolve over time.
Conditions We Treat With Kids Physiotherapy
Specialized Conditions Treated With Kids Physiotherapy
Congenital Talipes Equinovarus (CTEV)
Also known as Clubfoot, where a baby’s foot is twisted out of shape or position. In CTEV, the tissues connecting the muscles to the bone (tendons) are shorter than usual, causing the foot to turn inward and downward.

Idiopathic Toe Walking
Where a child continues walking on tiptoes past the age of 2 or 3 yrs of age, resulting in tightness in calf muscles and may lead to balance issues or joint pain later in life. Physiotherapy including but not limited to stretching, gait retraining, energy efficient neuromotor control strategies and can assist the child to regain a safe and stable base of support.

Cerebral Palsy
Physiotherapy rehabilitation can assist with the “permanent but non-progressive” brain injury, with the goal to harness neuroplasticity to improve a child’s function and prevent secondary complications like bone deformities or muscle contractures

Scoliosis
An abnormal curvature of the spine that often appears during growth spurts.

Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA)
A common chronic rheumatic disease affecting children presenting with joint inflammation causing pain and stiffness

Limb Differences/ Loss
Congenital absence of a limb or acquired limb loss requiring prosthetic training

Sever’s Disease (Calcaneal Apophysitis)
This is the most common cause of heel pain in children aged 8-14 years old. It occurs when the Achilles tendon pulls on the growth plate at the back of the heel bone.

Osgood-Schlatter Disease
A common cause of knee pain in children aged 10-15 years old. It involves inflammation of the area just below the kneecap where the patellar tendon attaches to the shinbone.

Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE)
Often identified in children aged 10-16 years old, this condition may be associated with rapid growth spurts. Accurate assessment for an underlying SCFE in a child presenting with thigh or knee pain is crucial for timely intervention and physician consultation.
